Sampdoria are reportedly ready to pull the plug on Andrea Pirlo’s management career after another humiliating defeat in Serie B, this time to Sudtirol.

The Blucerchiati had taken the lead with Facundo Gonzalez, but conceded an equaliser from Silvio Merkaj and then fell apart in the closing stages.

Daniele Casiraghi converted a contentious penalty at the 95th minute, followed by Emanuele Pecorino to add the icing to the cake of a 3-1 result.

During those chaotic final minutes, Pirlo was also sent off from the touchline for dissent, so he will be suspended for the showdown against Palermo.

Samp have now lost five games in Serie B this season, winning two and drawing three, so they are hovering just above the relegation zone.

There have been suggestions that Pirlo could be fired, paving the way for the return of Marco Giampaolo.

Pirlo is now 44 years old and his first coaching role was at Juventus in 2020-21, then was in Turkey for Fatih Karagumruk in the 2022-23 campaign.

  1. Like him as a player, not as a manager no idea how to train players for the serie B season.
