Maxi Lopez is reportedly back on Catania’s books for the time-being, after Sampdoria made clear they do not intend to sign him.

The Argentine striker spent the second half of last season back on loan at Marassi with any eye to earning a permanent transfer north.

However, with just the one goal from 11 League appearances, the Blucerchiati are reported by today’s Gazzetta dello Sport as having sent the 30-year-old back to Catania.

It is understood that Samp have informed the recently relegated Sicilians that they do not intend to negotiate a purchase of the striker.

Lopez, who also spent the 2012-13 season on loan with Sampdoria and the second half of the 2011-12 campaign on loan at Milan, is seen as without a lot of market interest at the moment, with ‘no concrete offers’ to have yet come in.
