Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero hinted at a bid for Southampton outcast Daniel Pablo Osvaldo.

“Osvaldo is a dream. If it came true, I’d order a marble statue of Ferrero for my garden,” wrote the fan.

The response from President Ferrero was: “Start looking for a sculptor.”

Today Southampton manager Ronald Koeman announced Osvaldo was no longer welcome at the club after he failed to attend pre-season training.

“It was a difficult situation for him to come back to,” Koeman told BBC Radio Solent.

“He was too late. The decision of the board was to allow him not to come back. We have to look for opportunities for him to play in a different team.”

The 28-year-old has been linked with Juventus, Inter and Napoli, but they are only prepared to take him on loan.

Sampdoria would be able to give Osvaldo regular playing time under a disciplinarian Coach like Sinisa Mihajlovic.

The Italy international was a record signing for the Saints in August 2013 for £15m, but within months had headbutted teammate Jose Fonte in a training ground brawl.

He was also fined £40,000 and suspended for three games due to violent conduct during an incident against Newcastle.

Osvaldo was loaned to Juventus in January, but scored only one Serie A goal and they decided not to take up their option.
