There was a bizarre incident at the Stadio Arechi when Salernitana and Hellas Verona arrived for today’s Serie A game, as someone had broken into the arena and covered the pitch in salt.
According to Calciomercato.com, someone broke into the Stadio Arechi overnight and poured a ‘large quantity’ of salt over the pitch.
The intention was seemingly to ruin the playing turf, but those present assure that there is no danger to the game.
The ground staff discovered the situation this morning, alerted the local authorities and brought in a special detergent to remove the salt and get the pitch back in shape in record time.
Salernitana are the only side in Serie A still without a point so far this season, having lost all four games.
There are reports that coach Fabrizio Castori could be at risk if he doesn’t turn the situation around rapidly, including today’s fixture against Hellas Verona.
