There are reports Salernitana are ready to fire coach Davide Nicola after their historic 8-2 defeat to Atalanta, with alternatives including Roberto D’Aversa and Eusebio Di Francesco.

Nicola became a hero to the club and their fans after taking over in a desperate situation in February 2022 and completing the comeback to secure their Serie A safety.

This season has started in considerably better form than the last, but not enough to satisfy President Danilo Iervolino, especially after picking up two points from the last six rounds.

Tonight’s epic 8-2 loss in Bergamo could be the final straw, as there are multiple reports Salernitana are preparing to sack Nicola.

There aren’t many high-profile options to replace him, the main names mentioned being ex-Sampdoria and Parma boss D’Aversa and former Roma and Verona coach Di Francesco.

It’s not just Nicola who is reportedly facing the ire of President Iervolino, but also director of sport Morgan De Sanctis.

  1. If Milan had put away their chances in Salerno, it would’ve been 8 or 9 on that day as well. Giroud for one had 4 relative tap ins.
