Walter Sabatini is uncertain Roma’s recent run of form will end next weekend at Palermo, given that they will go into that game still ‘suffering’.

The Giallorossi’s attempts to reverse a negative momentum of results with next weekend’s trip to the Renzo Barbera have been hit with injury and suspension.

Without Nicolas Burdisso, Juan and Miralem Pjanic through injury, Luis Enrique is also preparing for the trip minus the suspended trio of Maarten Stekelenburg, Marco Cassetti and Daniel Pablo Osvaldo.

“In Palermo will arrive a Roma that is suffering, both in terms of results and their situation,” sporting director Sabatini told Radio Trm on Tuesday.

“The club will honour the game and play it to the best of our ability. It is, though, a time of great difficulty for us, having experienced two burning knockouts.”

Those two knockouts were the 4-1 defeat to Atalanta and the 2-1 derby defeat to Lazio. Even so, Enrique’s position as Coach is not under scrutiny, a situation that former Palermo ds Sabatini was asked would ever be possible under Maurizio Zamparini in Sicily.

“How long would Luis Enrique last in Palermo? Always in context, Palermo and Roma are different situations. Of course, though, there have been a few negative results that the President would not have accepted.

“With Zamparini we must be fair, it is very difficult to defend a Coach with him – he cannot stand suffering defeats without attributing blame and therefore often argues on the basis of emotion.”

Sabatini was also asked of the continued reports suggesting that Roma will not be taking up their option in the summer to make former Palermo defender Simon Kjaer’s loan move from Wolfsburg permanent.

“To err in a few games for Roma becomes a final sentence. He has only gone wrong with a few plays, not games.

“When a 1.90m-tall player with blond hair makes mistakes, it is different to when a 1.70m-tall player with brown hair makes the same mistakes.

“Kjaer is a strong player and I think we’ll see him on the field on Saturday.”
