Novara have officially sacked Emiliano Mondonico after only six games in charge and brought back Attilio Tesser in his place.

Mondonico was originally brought in to replace Tesser at the end of January, with the Piedmont club hoping that a change in leadership would prompt a response from the players.

Even as Mondonico masterminded the team’s first three clean sheets of the season in successive games – that also included a 1-0 win away to Inter – the club have taken action to remove him from his position and reinstate fans’ favourite Tesser.

The club confirmed the news on Tuesday afternoon in a statement.

“Novara has formalised the termination of the professional relationship with Coach Emiliano Mondonico. The decision has matured in the morning following an open dialogue between the parties.

“Novara would like to thanks Mondonico for his efforts during his time with the Azzurri.

“Simultaneously, the club would like to announce the return to the bench of Coach Attilio Tesser.”

Earlier, the club released a statement announcing the departure of sporting director Mauro Pederzoli, after the ‘disappearance of the conditions for continuing their journey together’. He will be replaced by deputy Cristiano Giaretta.
