The Giallorossi must win against BATE Borisov this evening to be certain of qualification for the Round of 16.

The game got off to a bad start, as Gervinho pulled out during the warm-up and will be replaced by Juan Manuel Iturbe.

“Gervinho does not have a thigh strain, it’s just an inflammation and therefore not a muscular problem. If he had a tear, he wouldn’t even have warmed up,” Sabatini told Mediaset Premium.

“First of all there is our prestige. We want to represent something in football. There are economic advantages to qualifying, but those come later.”

The Olimpico is painfully empty for such a big game, as ultras continue the protest against barriers in the Curva Sud and at recent poor results.

“Protests from the fans are to do with the institutions, as the Curva Sud split is not down to us. The club suffers because it is caught in the middle.

“The affection of the crowd is still felt, but it’s less so and the team does suffer with that.”
