Roma full-back Mario Rui says his knee is ‘progressing well’ after his pre-season operation.

The defender has yet to play for the Giallorossi following his summer signing from Empoli, as he was injured in pre-season training.

Speaking to Roma's official website, Rui described his recovery, and assessed the progress of his new team.

“It's been exactly two months and two days since my operation and I'm happy with the way things are going. My knee is recovering well.

“I have spent most of the days together with Antonio Rudiger and Abdullahi Nura here in Trigoria, morning till evening, and you obviously get to know each other better.

"They began their rehabilitation before me so they're further along with their recovery and they're doing well. I'm trying to pick up some tips from them on the methods they've used."

The Giallorossi currently sit third in the table, five points behind Juventus in top spot and Rui took the opportunity to give his thoughts on their progress under boss Luciano Spalletti.

“The team have produced some great football at times and there's plenty of room for improvement so that's definitely a positive.

“We can and we must do better by working on the aspects that have been going less well. I'm sure we'll soon start producing some great football.”

The new signing ended with a message to the Roma fans, who have yet to see him play for the capital club.

“Most of all I'd like to thank [the fans] because they gave me a fantastic welcome.

“I really wasn't expecting it to be quite like that. I've been through a bad spell but I'm getting over it now and I'm sure I'll come back stronger than ever.”
