Brazilian legend Ronaldo reveals the truth about his move to Inter from Barcelona in 1997 and hopes the Nerazzurri win the Scudetto this season.

Ronaldo spoke to Sky Sport Italia from Madrid and the Italian broadcasters will release another interview with the ex-Milan and Inter striker tonight, conducted by Alessandro Del Piero.

Ronaldo is now the President of Valladolid and Cruzeiro and admits that he hopes to follow in the footsteps of his former Presidents, Massimo Moratti and Florentino Perez.

“As a president, I must do important things, but during my career as a footballer, I had many great masters, from Moratti, who was like a father to me, and Florentino Perez, who reinvented football with the Galacticos,” he said.

Ronaldo joined Inter in 1997 from Barcelona and remained at the club until 2002, when he joined Real Madrid. He scored 59 goals in 99 games with the Nerazzurri, but two serious knee injuries affected his time in Milan.

“I had reached an agreement to extend with Barcelona, but after four days, the President called me to say that it was impossible to go ahead,” he revealed.

“I said that I was free to negotiate with other clubs and Inter were quick to pay my release clause. Serie A was the best league in the world.

The race for the title is so good this season. I think Inter are playing better and I hope they can win again. For the Champions League, Real Madrid are the favourite. They are not in a great moment, but they are in sync with this competition and Ancelotti is one of the best coaches in the world.

“Karim Benzema deserves the Ballon d’Or. I’ve been saying it for many years and I was criticised for it, but he deserves it.”

Ronaldo also wore the Milan shirt at the end of his playing career, scoring nine goals in 20 appearances with the Rossoneri.
