Stephen Pagliuca and his son Joseph Case are among the new members of Atalanta‘s board of directors, but the American businessman is ready to reduce his stake in the Serie A club to buy Chelsea.

Pagliuca has confirmed his desire to make a ‘credible offer’ to buy the Premier League giants following sanctions imposed by the British Government on Roman Abramovich.

Pagliuca confirmed in a statement released by Sky News UK today that he is ready to make an offer to complete Chelsea’s takeover. The report adds that the co-owner of Atalanta and NBA team Boston Celtics would be ready to reduce his stake in Atalanta to complete the club’s takeover.

The trouble is, Pagliuca has just joined La Dea’s board of directors along with his son Joseph Case and Bain Capital Private Equity chiefs David Benjamin Gross-Loh and Luca Bassi. Antonio Percassi has been confirmed as the club’s President, while his son Luca remains in charge as Atalanta’s CEO.

Only Mario Volpi has been confirmed in the board of directors, while Stefano Percassi, Isidoro Fratus, Marino Lazzarini, Maurizio Radici, Alessandro Michetti and Roberto Selini have officially left it.

Pagliuca acquired a 55% stake in Atalanta in February, but his decision to buy Chelsea from Abramovich could soon put an end to his time in Bergamo. Atalanta have not commented on the news yet.

  1. What a disgrace. This shows the level of intent this ownership has towards Atalanta. I hope the fana boo him out. Atalanta deserves an ownership that will do what is best and not be tempted by offers simply for money and politics
