“I decided not to stay because I no longer trusted the Blaugrana directors. Then Inter came in straight away, an incredible challenge.
“Back then the Italian league was the best in the world and the most difficult. I think it was the best choice I could have made.
“My debut? I was very tense and excited. It was beautiful; San Siro was full and it was really very emotional for me. Not just my debut, but the whole day.
“It’s a great love story between me and Inter. It’s here that I became Il Fenomeno, as they called me ever since, and I’m eternally grateful to Inter.
“I just want to thank all the Interisti who cried with me when I cried, and who rejoiced and celebrated when we won.”
One of Ronaldo’s best goals came away at Spartak Moscow in the 1997-98 UEFA Cup.
“It was very cold, I think it was -18°C. When we arrived the pitch was covered with snow and the game was postponed for two hours to remove it.
“It was a hostile atmosphere, with opposing fans who impressed me a lot, as happens in the big games.
“We needed that result and I scored a wonderful goal, but the whole team played really well.”
