Cristiano Ronaldo admits the standing ovation from Juventus fans “helped” his decision to come to Turin and he hopes his son will become a football player.

The Ballon d’Or winner scored a sensational overhead kick at the Juventus Stadium for Real Madrid in the Champions League last season and it was greeted by a standing ovation. Did that sway his decision to join Juve?

“Some people say yes, some people say no. I can say that small details make a big difference at the end of the day,” he told DAZN Italia.

“What I can say is that what I saw in that stadium helped, to be honest. Unfortunately, I scored that goal against my current club, but that is the past.

“It was in my opinion the best goal of my career so far and of course when the people started to applaud me, I said wow. It surprised me a lot, as it had never happened to in my life. It was an unbelievable moment.”

CR7 was signed as much for his power as a brand as his prowess on the playing field and that means the right number.

“Of course, 7 is my favourite number. I spoke to the club and to Cuadrado, who had the 7, and he said it was no problem, it’d be a pleasure for him to give me the Number 7. I was surprised, in a good way, and am really glad to continue with my Number 7.”

Ronaldo was also asked about what he does in his downtime and other sporting passions beside football.

“I like UFC. I like to see tennis, basketball, while ping-pong is my second sport that I play well. I like to see the UFC fights, though.

“I think it’s important to look good, to smell good, because it’s not just women. My girlfriend, my Mum, my sister, I like to see everyone dressed good, men or women. It’s part of our culture. Not an obsession, but a little detail here and there makes the difference, in my opinion.

“Cristiano Jr is very competitive, like me when I was young, he doesn’t like to lose. He’ll be like me, I am sure 100 per cent. He’ll be whatever he wants and I’m always going to support him, but of course I’d like him to be a football player.

“I think he has that drive, he has the body, he’s fast, has technique, but as you know, he’s going to make his own decisions and is so young. I’m not going to put pressure on him, but of course I’d like to see my boy become a football player.”
