Ahead of an operation that will keep Romulo out for up to three months, the Juventus man’s agent says surgery was not initially planned.

The Brazilian joined the Bianconeri on loan from Hellas Verona this summer, but has suffered with a recurring groin injury.

Following Kwadwo Asamoah, who has just been sidelined for up to four months after knee surgery, Romulo is set to go under the knife today.

With the player facing a potential three-month lay-off, his agent has looked to offer detail to the situation.

“[Today] the player will have surgery and we'll fix the problem once and for all,” Alex Firmino has told Tuttomercatoweb this week.

“For the sake of clarity I'd like to specify a few things – everyone knows that he skipped the World Cup because of this problem and we immediately tried to fix the situation.

“Doctors in both Italy and in Brazil told us that physiotherapy was sufficient, that the problem was not so bad as to require surgery.

“For this type of injury, few doctors are able to speak with certainty, it is hard to give a diagnosis.

“Everything looked fine, we wanted it to be before signing with Juventus. Romulo underwent examinations with the Bianconeri doctors and they found no problems either.

“Unfortunately the problem has resurfaced, Romulo felt pain and now we will fix it with the surgery.”

Firmino was asked about why Romulo is returning to Sao Paulo for his surgery.

“Romulo is Brazilian and prefers dealing with doctors who speak his language, to understand exactly what he has to do.

“I'm sure everything's going to be fine and the kid will soon be back on the pitch. He is optimistic himself.”
