Alessio Romagnoli admits this is a very different Christmas for Milan compared a year ago, as they are top of the table after a 3-2 win over Lazio.

The Rossoneri maintained their unbeaten run in Serie A this season and the leadership going into the Christmas break, as after Lazio fought back for 2-2, Theo Hernandez snatched the winner in stoppages.

“We had suffered more in previous Christmases, so we intend to enjoy this one, as a great deal has changed in a year,” smiled Romagnoli on Sky Sport Italia.

“The signings in January gave us a big hand, as we slowly gained more and more confidence game after game.

“The coach also did very well from the start to trust the group. We had been a bit separated in the locker room, let’s say, but he managed to bring us all together and the results came as a consequence.

“We have to play every game to the maximum. We are a young team with a lot of good ideas, the important thing is to keep going like this.”

Milan are forced to play behind closed doors, but their ultras accompanied them to San Siro from the training ground ahead of the Lazio game with mopeds and cars, setting off flares and waving flags.

“The fans are our strength, even if they can’t enter the stadium,” added the captain.

“We give them a massive thanks and hope to have them in the stands as soon as possible.”

Romagnoli was asked if he will extend his current Milan contract.

“I hope to play another 200 games with Milan. You’d have to ask the directors about the contract, but the current one runs to June 2022, so there’s no rush.”
