To defuse the situation, a meeting with the President has been scheduled now that Pallotta is in the capital. One preliminary meeting already took place but proved inconclusive.

Pallotta is expected to offer a renewal of Totti's contract on new terms, presumably with an option to extend at the end of every season.

The meeting may take place before this Sunday, or it could be deferred until after Tuesday's Champions League match against Real Madrid, in which the Lupi head to the Bernabeu in an effort to reverse a 2-0 loss.

It remains to be seen whether Totti will be convinced by Pallotta's offer that he is still part of the club's project.

The 39-year-old could choose to end his career as a player and take up a role as a director instead.
