Roma transfer target Goncalo Guedes has given the Giallorossi faithful hope he could be available this summer as he said he is unsure whether he will continue at Valencia.

Guedes has been a long-term target for Roma, in part due to their Portuguese connection with manager Jose Mourinho and sporting director Tiago Pinto.

The winger scored the opener in Thursday’s 2-0 win over Czech Republic and speaking ahead of the Nations League clash with Switzerland, he told reporters about his Valencia future: “Right now, I’m not sure. I have a two-year contract and I need to honour this.

“If there is a situation which is beneficial to myself and Valencia, we would look at it. Let’s see what the future holds.”

Former Milan and Napoli manager Gennaro Gattuso was recently appointed as manager at the Mestalla and Guedes spoke positively of the ex-Italy midfielder.

The Portugal international said: “He is a coach I really respect. He has shown over the past few years he can produce good work. Let’s hope he can do does that [here] and starts as well as possible.”

Asked if Gattuso was the right type of manager for his style of play, the 25-year-old added: “I need to adapt to all the coach, be ready for all types of football that the coach asks for.”

Despite recent reports suggesting Fiorentina are also interested in Guedes, Calciomercato.com report Roma are in pole position for his signature should he become available this summer.
