The Giallorossi are at the centre of the January transfer window, as while Emerson Palmieri’s move to Stamford Bridge seems imminent, Dzeko is refusing to make the same journey.

Multiple Italian sources report the Bosnia international will only accept Chelsea if there is a contract to June 2020, whereas the Premier League side are at most giving an 18-month deal because he turns 32 in March.

Meanwhile, Mediaset Premium claim director of sport Monchi is hard at work with La Liga side Villarreal.

The idea on the table is to exchange Defrel with another former Sassuolo player, Sansone.

Now 26 years old, Sansone was born in Germany and came up through the Bayern Munich system, but shot to fame at Sassuolo under the guidance of current Roma Coach Eusebio Di Francesco.

He was sold to Villarreal in the summer of 2016 for €13m and continues to impress there, this season contributing four goals and two assists in 13 competitive games.

Sansone can play as a centre-forward, a support striker or on the left wing.

Roma signed Defrel from Sassuolo this summer for €5m loan and €15m obligation to buy, but might be able to get out of that if they send him to Villarreal.

The 26-year-old Frenchman has so far played in 11 games between Serie A and the Champions League, without making any impact.
