Today he was presented with the Tapiro d’Oro by satirical television show Striscia La Notizia, an ‘award’ that is given to people who have had a setback.

“I don’t know what happened, believe me,” Tavecchio told their reporter.

“I am a supporter of my Nazionale, so the thought that still troubles me is the fact we’re not going to the World Cup.

“Many of us chose Ventura as the Coach and I agreed with them because at that time he was the best tactician in circulation.”

Tavecchio’s presence in Italian football is not over yet, as there are reports he is in the running to be elected new Lega Serie A President, representing the top flight clubs.

“I am not being pushed or sent by anyone. I am ready if and when I am asked, otherwise I am a happy man nonetheless.”
