Roma striker Tammy Abraham has earned a recall to the England squad for World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary.

The former Chelsea centre-forward and Ben Chilwell were both brought in to replace injured Reece James.

It is confirmation of the fine start the 24-year-old has had to life in Serie A under coach Jose Mourinho.

Abraham scored four goals and provided two assists, but also rattled the woodwork several times, much to his frustration.

This is his first England call-up since November 2020, while he had already found the net against Montenegro in November 2019.

England manager Gareth Southgate added Abraham to the squad list for the World Cup qualifiers away to Andorra on Saturday October 9 and against Hungary at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday October 12.

  1. Deserved. He’s been quite unfortunate with the amount of times he’s hit the woodwork

  2. Stats are not only wrong but skewed to fit the narrative too.

Overall, he has 4 goals and 3 assists. BUT. ffs that’s when including the conference league. Even Kane is scoring in that ‘competition’. In serie a, he only has 2 goals in 7 games.

Just as well he won’t be facing Felipe Ramos on international duty…just barely got out of his pocket to feature well vs Empoli. Abraham is a flat track bully. Will/might make the difference vs midtable/relegation fighting sides, but he’s definitely not a 40m player.
