Ajax are still hopeful that Roma will make a bid for goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg this summer.

The Giallorossi have been strongly paired with the Dutch international even though they do seem close to signing Idriss Carlos Kameni of Espanyol.

"We know, through the player's agent, that Roma's interest in Stekelenburg is still alive," sporting director Danny Blind is quoted as saying.

"At the moment though we have not received a concrete offer. We'll just have to wait and see what happens in the next few days."

The Dutch club value the 'keeper at about €10m seeing as his contract is set to expire in June 2012.

"We haven't offered Maarten an extension," Blind continued. "He's an exemplary professional and an excellent goalkeeper. He'll remain our captain.

"He still has a year on his contract with us and we know that there is interest. Now we'll see how the situation evolves."
