Roma’s Mark Pannes says the club should be able to give news on new stadium plans ‘in the next seven days’.

Rome’s city council will discuss the plans over the next week, with a decision to be made next Tuesday.

President James Pallotta had earlier stated his belief that plans would go ahead despite a corruption scandal, and the man heading the club's development project echoed those sentiments.

“I think the situation of the stadium is very positive,” Pannes told Roma Radio.

“I think that the reasons behind the delays have been removed, and we can’t wait to give you some news in the next seven days.

“The discussions are open to the public, so Roma fans should go to Campidoglio tomorrow and Tuesday to show your support.

“We know we can count on our fans to express their support in a polite way, it would be very important for us and for the city.”

Roma face Manchester City tonight in a do-or-die Champions League match, and Pannes can’t wait to experience such occasions in a new venue.

“It’s clear that when we talk about the on-field impact the new stadium will be fantastic.

“It’s our goal, and there are a lot of people all working very hard in perfect harmony to achieve it.

“It’s a process which will involve the coaching staff, they’ll give us advice on how to design the dressing rooms and sports centre. Everyone will be involved.

“The game tonight will see us pressing forward on the field, but it would be a completely different thing in a stadium we could call our own.

“Our hope is to soon play games like tonight’s in a new ground.”
