The Giallorossi confirmed Mourinho’s immediate departure with an official statement on Tuesday morning.

“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club,” said Dan and Ryan Friedkin.

“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.”

They Giallorossi are expected to hire club legend Daniele De Rossi to replace the Special One.

Mourinho was appointed in 2021, signing a three-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico so his deal would expire this coming June.

Roma players were informed about the club’s decision at Trigoria this morning, where they had arrived for a training session.

Mourinho won the Conference League in his first season in charge of Roma in 2021-22 and reached the Europa League Final last season.

The Giallorossi currently sit 9th in the Serie A table, five points below fourth-placed Fiorentina.

They had been eliminated from the Coppa Italia at the hands of city rivals Lazio last week and lost 3-1 against Milan at San Siro on Sunday.

Mourinho was suspended in his last game in charge of the Giallorossi and was replaced by his assistant Salvatore Foti in the dugout against Milan last weekend.
