James Pallotta has hailed confirmation of Roma’s new stadium as a ‘pivotal’ moment for the club.

Roma were finally given the green light to begin work on the Stadio della Roma project before Tuesday’s 1-0 win against Qarabag, and Pallotta believes the new build will also help “return Italian football to its rightful place,”

“This is a pivotal day for Rome and for AS Roma,” the President told the Giallorossi’s official website.

“First of all, I would like to thank the institutions and authorities for working with such dedication and transparency to complete the long and complex administrative process required for our project to get the green light.

“I'm delighted because I know what this decision could mean for Rome itself, for our club’s future and for our fans – and we want to give them the home they deserve.

“We are all excited to put shovels in the ground and to build what we are sure will make all current and future Roma fans worldwide even more proud to wear our colours and sing our songs.

“Our stadium complex will be a continuation of Rome's development and a small part of its incredibly rich history.

“The stadium will also be important in helping return Italian football to its rightful place. Forza Roma.”
