On Friday, France Football had suggested the club record fee was on the table and those rumours are now spreading.

It would effectively be a loan with obligation to buy at the end of the season, then Leicester City receive a percentage of any sell-on fee.

This is a similar deal to the ones that brought Mohamed Salah and Edin Dzeko to Roma from Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.

Monchi flew out from Rome on Friday evening and it’s reported he was heading to England for further negotiations.

Leicester City have asked for €40m (£36.1m) from the start, while the most recent Roma offer for Mahrez had stood at €30m (£27.1m).
