Negotiations continue for PSG midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, as Roma reportedly ask him to make a small sacrifice for his salary.

The former Liverpool man arrived as a free agent last summer and was given a salary of circa €9m per season.

He is available on loan with an option to buy that could become an obligation for over €10m if Roma qualify for the Champions League.

Talks have dragged on for weeks and it was hoped the final breakthrough would be achieved today, but there is still no deal.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the situation remains complicated and Roma have asked Wijnaldum to make a sacrifice by giving up a portion of his wages.

PSG are already covering approximately half the salary during the loan spell, but that is still too much for the Giallorossi.

Wijnaldum is determined to keep all of the money he was promised for this season, including the performance-related bonuses and add-ons.

  1. This smells like a really bad deal. Obligation to buy a 31 year old for 30 million with no resale value. If this deal goes through then this will be Tiago’s worst bit of business this summer. Forza Roma.

  2. Don’t worry, you won’t reach Champions League again this year, so the obligation wont get through! Lol!

  3. Relax, the author made a mistake. This is the only site I’ve seen that mentions Roma buying Wijn at 30m.
If he comes, it will probably be for 5-10m.

  4. Theres ZERO chance Roma are going to pay 30 million for him, in fact I find it hard to believe Roma will pay anything for him considering he was brought in free, is 31, earns a ton of money and is surplus to requirements. Clearly Roma are much shrewder than they have ever been, so I cant see them making another Pastore-esque deal.
