Now Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting that Milan's CEO Adriano Galliani has met with Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini, and he asked Roma to respect the agreed date of June 30, in return for a small discount on the buyout clause.
Coach Luciano Spalletti wishes to keep hold of El Shaarawy, but the club has doubts over the financial outlay for this summer.
Juan Iturbe and Adem Ljajic are unlikely to be bought outright by Bournemouth and Inter respectively, so will return to Stadio Olimpico.
Both are attacking players, creating a surplus for the Giallorossi, who would obviously have to add their wages back onto the books too.
In addition, the capital club must redeem Antonio Rüdiger from Stuttgart for €9m, while Paris Saint-Germain are still demanding €15m for Lucas Digne.
It therefore seems increasingly likely that this weekend’s game against Chievo will be El Shaarawy’s last at Stadio Olimpico, even though Spalletti wants to keep him.
