The Corriere dello Sport claims today that Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini is a fan of the 20-year-old.

Merkel impressed at Genoa this season during his 13 League games, before he move to Milan in January in a bid to solve their injury crisis.

However, the German played just three games for the Rossoneri.

As part of the Merkel deal, Milan now own Stephan El Shaarawy outright.
