There are reports that Roma director Walter Sabatini is in Amsterdam tonight to secure a deal for Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

The club had been very close to signing the Dutch international, then seemed to change their minds with a bid for Espanyol shot-stopper Idriss Carlos Kameni, but are back on his trail.

According to the latest rumours from Sky Sport Italia, director of sport Sabatini has flown out to Amsterdam for intensive negotiations.

Stekelenburg would be available for around €6m, which is considerably less than the original €10m quoted by Ajax.

This is because his contract expires at the end of next season, so the 28-year-old could be a free agent within months.
