Roma are said to be planning an offer for Arsenal’s Belgian international defender Thomas Vermaelen.

This wouldn’t be the first time Vermaelen has been linked with a move to Serie A, as he was also on Inter and Napoli’s radar.

According to La Repubblica newspaper, Giallorossi director of sport Walter Sabatini is keeping a close eye on the defender.

The 28-year-old suffered from a series of knee problems that have still not been resolved and his contract is due to expire in June 2015.

It’s reported the price-tag would be around €14m, while his wages are set at €4.2m per year.

Roma would be able to offer Champions League football and a growing club that already revitalised the career of Gervinho.

“Several Italian clubs have shown their interest,” agent Alex Kroes told La Repubblica.

“We will wait for the World Cup before discussing any issues regarding his future.”
