Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has backed boss Luis Enrique after another Serie A defeat.

The Giallorossi lost 3-2 at home to Milan on Saturday which means they are now eight points away from leaders Juventus and just four above the relegation zone.

"Luis Enrique is not Roma's problem. A new Coach has a need for fortune and results.

"We remain optimistic about the future."

Roma are next in action at the weekend when they travel to struggling Novara.

Sabatini's words come just a day after new director general Franco Baldini reassured anxious fans that things would improve.

"We are a young team and it's going to take patience," said the ex-Real Madrid and England official.

"The important thing is to grow, which we can only do through good football. Luis Enrique has the full faith of the club and we'll carry on along this path.

"The Giallorossi crowd have realised the value of our project. We want to build a great squad and the future is ours.

"At the moment, though, we cannot afford to sign big champions. If we lose, then the fans are only right to protest, but I am happy with their attitude."
