Daniele De Rossi could make an emotional return to Roma if The Friedkin Group completes its takeover.

Corriere dello Sport agrees the American consortium, known for its distribution of Toyota vehicles, is close to buying Roma for €780m.

Corriere dello Sport agrees the American consortium, known for its distribution of Toyota vehicles, is close to buying Roma for €780m.

However, the newspaper goes one step further, writing how it has already spoken to De Rossi about a role on the club’s “technical staff”.

The midfielder had spent his entire playing career with the Giallorossi but, like fellow icon Francesco Totti, fell out with owner James Pallotta.

He subsequently joined Argentine side Boca Juniors over the summer, but his time at La Bombonera has been marred by injuries.

His father Alberto is currently in charge of Roma’s Primavera team but has been linked with taking on a more senior position, overseeing youth operations.

It could well be that the 36-year-old replaces his dad at the helm of the Under-19s.
