The former Italy international has been a regular with the Magpies, featuring in 27 Premier League games this season.

According to Sky Sport Italia pundit Gianluca Di Marzio, Newcastle are nonetheless prepared to part with the versatile full-back, who can play on the right or the left.

The Inter youth academy graduate is still only 23 years old and is valued at a minimum of £10m – double what they paid for him in August 2011.

It’s reported Roma are the club most interested in bringing Santon back to Serie A and they can also promise him Champions League football.

The move would also suit Santon, who’d be able to convince Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli of his reliability.
