Although the Englishman turns 31 later this year, minimising his resale potential, he is described as an ‘irreplaceable pillar’ for coach Paulo Fonseca.

The move could also help him re-establish himself in the England team, with the publication stating how he was convinced to stay at the Olimpico by CT Gareth Southgate.

Smalling has played 28 times for the Giallorossi this season, scoring two goals.
