Director of Sport Sabatini said the downturn in fortunes since the January transfer window was “my fault” and hinted he’ll quit at the end of the season.

According to both La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport, the main candidate to replace him at Roma is former Inter chief Branca.

He was briefly also a player with the Giallorossi, scoring two goals in seven games, and had the role of director of sport at Inter during their Treble-winning campaign of 2010.

The 50-year-old is a free agent, having terminated his contract with Inter by mutual consent in February 2014 after Erick Thohir took over the club.

Roma are looking to change director of sport rather than Coach, as so far the fan protests have targeted players and club rather than Rudi Garcia.

Meanwhile, today the squad was taken directly to the runway to board a flight to Cesena ahead of tomorrow night’s Serie A match.

Security decided it was best to avoid letting the players go through the airport in case there were further protests and ugly scenes.
