Roma have crushed Barcelona's competition for Fluminense's Gerson with an offer of €18m, but they may wait another year for the player.

The Giallorossi were already rumoured to be the closest club to the Brazilian 18-year-old, but the offer was believed to be €15m.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma now have €18m on the plate and have brushed away the competition of Barcelona, who had a right of precedence with Fluminense over the player.

Juventus were also interested in the player, but have reportedly backed down before these new offers.

In spite of acquiring Gerson now, Roma may opt to leave him in Brazil for another year, as Serie A only lets teams sign a maximum of two players per season who do not have an Italian passport, and those spots will likely be taken by Mohamed Salah and Edin Dzeko.
