Roma have appointed scout Mauro Leo to be their new sporting director, although he won’t be in charge of making signings.

Documents that needed to be submitted by the Giallorossi to Lega Serie A had a missing name in the sporting director section following the departure of Morgan De Sanctis, so a new appointment was needed to resolve bureaucratic issues.

As reported by Il Tempo, Mauro Leo is now officially Roma’s new sporting director. He will be charged with taking care of players out on loan and overseeing their development. He was formerly a well renowned scout with Juventus and Inter before joining the Giallorossi last year.

Despite the appointment, important transfer market dealings will still be handled by Thiago Pinto, leaving less pressing matters to Leo, such as lower-cost deals or picking up youth prospects.

The Friedkins are working hard to build a strong project in the Italian capital following their takeover in 2020 and they’ll be hoping to secure a top four finish next season.
