The Bianconeri have won the title for the past four seasons in a row, but are currently struggling down in 14th-place.

Speaking to Sky, the Italian international did not rule out retaining the Scudetto, but thinks other teams are better-placed.

“It’s normal that there’s a schedule in all our heads,” Marchisio admitted.

“It’s a long season, and you can look at the various matches ahead of us. But we must always think game-to-game to have the consistency we need to get back to winning.

“We know that it’s not a normal season this year, nobody has been able to take off and take advantage.

“At the same time though, we know we need to recover, we need results and we want to finish as high as possible.

“The favourites? Right now I’d say Roma and Napoli. It’s true that Fiorentina are having a great season, but we need to see if they can maintain this pace.

“They’re a team who are doing very well, with a Coach [Paulo Sousa] who has adapted really well to this competition, but there are better-equipped teams.”

The Old Lady were held to a 0-0 draw in the Champions League last night by Borussia Monchengladbach, but Marchisio is taking the positives.

“It’s a missed opportunity, because we were playing at home and could have got closer to qualification.

“But we still need to look at the things in our Champions League which have definitely positive, compared to last year when we risked not going through right until the last game. Now we’re top of the group.

“It’s true that [Manchester] City won, but we’re definitely on the right path.”
