The Brazilian won the League in the Italian capital and briefly played there alongside current Bayern manager Pep Guardiola.

Before arriving in Italy, the former midfielder also spent three seasons with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany and today has cast his eye on this evening’s Champions League match.

“I expect a game with many goals,” he told Tuttomercatoweb. “Although we need to see the two teams’ attitude in the first 15 minutes of the game.

“Roma plays at home though so I can see them as favourites.

“Rudi Garcia’s side are really formidable when they attack. They are really dangerous but at the same time they defend very well.

“Bayern always plays to score as well, that’s why I expect an open and entertaining game tonight.”

From the draw in Monaco last August, the player once known as  ‘Puma’ says he had predicted Roma and Bayern to qualify from the group.

“Manchester City are a really strong side, but I believe that Roma and Bayern are stronger.

“Immediately after the draw, I said that Italians and Germans would both qualify and now I am even more convinced on this.”

Emerson formerly excelled in midfield in the same role as Seydou Keita. The former Barcelona has been playing a very important part in Roma’s season so far.

“Garcia’s style of football enhances his qualities and he found a team that makes him play according to his qualities.

“In Rome Keita feels important, while he wasn’t feeling the same in Barcelona.”
