La Repubblica suggested that the player could be implicated in a new line of investigation based on an online conversation between Palmieri and someone with the identification ‘stefano160268’ where an alleged fix on the 2011 game between Lazio and Lecce was supposedly discussed.

However, for Palmieri, a friend of Alessandro Zamparini the former player who received a two-year ban for his part played in Calcioscommesse, Mauri has nothing to worry about.

“They told me about a conversation I allegedly had with a certain Stefano on Skype,” Palmieri began to Radio Sei today.

“I can absolutely state that ‘Stefano’ certainly isn’t Stefano Mauri, the Lazio player.

“What’s more, such evidence on my PC has been checked without any kind of notification to my lawyer.

“And as such, it can’t be considered a proper evidence.”

Mauri and his lawyer have denied all involvement in the alleged conversation.
