Gonzalo Rodriguez promises he'll discuss his renewal next month, but warns Fiorentina need greater consistency.

“I'm happy here,” he said in today's Press conference. “Fiorentina and the fans have always treated me well, and I am proud to wear the armband. I think I can defend this team in the best possible way.

The defender picked up the captain's armband after the departure of Manuel Pasqual, but he promises he doesn't intend to go anywhere himself.
“I'm happy here,” he said in today's Press conference. “Fiorentina and the fans have always treated me well, and I am proud to wear the armband. I think I can defend this team in the best possible way.
“One month from now my agent will be here and we'll discuss [the renewal]. I need to have a clear head now and think about the team.
“What matters most is our great group. We don't depend on a single individual but on a collectivity.
“I'd like to finish my career at the San Lorenzo, but in football things change every day. We'll discuss my future a month from now.”
The Argentine was then asked about his preferred formation.
“For me, playing with a three- or a four-man defence is all the same. What matters is working with the same idea we had last year.
“We're lucky enough in that Paulo Sousa chose to stay, so we can continue with his style of playing and defending.
“We have to improve compared to last year. We started off well, playing a beautiful football, but in the second half of the season we let go a little. Juventus did brilliantly and it's hard to keep up with that consistency.”
The 32-year-old then turned to the matter of the transfer market and the Gigliati's new and prospective signings.
“We'll certainly have someone coming in for the defence, because we're playing in three tournaments and it's tough when you have such few players.
“[Kevin] Diks? It's hard to judge him after a mere four days. He's a fast player and he's training very well. We must be patient.
“[Ricardo] Bagadur and [Gianluca] Mancini are young and they have a lot to learn. We need to be patient with them.
"Our decline last season was not physical, we just came short in terms of results. Against Napoli we had a great game but we drew, and against Juventus we lost. These results harmed us mentally. I think we played a good championship but it's hard to keep a constant level of play."
In addition to discussing Fiorentina, Rodriguez also had something to say about the trouble that his compatriot Lionel Messi is experiencing.
“I'm so sorry about what happened around him. People are by his side and he knows that. I'm sure he'll keep playing with the national team.
“What's happening with our federation is an outrage. We have no president, but it must be led only by someone who cares about football.”
