The 23-year-old ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament last April and was expected not to return to professional football until September. Instead, he is already back with the Rossoblu in the pre-season training.

“It's because I've been worked on by a great surgeon like Dr Mariani and a great medical staff,” he told Sky Sports Italia.

“I didn't think I'd be feeling so well, so early. But it's important to join the pre-season training because this is where we form the group that goes on and faces the championship.

“It's an important season for us and I think we can attain some real objectives.”

Perin was then asked whether his healing miracle was good news for Genoa, or perhaps for one of his suitors on the market.

“For Genoa. I still have very much to give to this team. Honestly, this summer I thought about everything except the market.”

Finally, the promising young goalkeeper was asked about Euro 2016, which he missed out on because of his injury.

“I'd have been happy to be part of the 23. They are real, humble people and they proved that during the Euros. Not being part of that group is what pained me the most.

“They played a great tournament and they managed to bring together a nation that over certain matters has been divided for too long.”
