Investcorp and Ares Capital are considering a move for Inter after failing to purchase Milan, reports in Italy suggested.

Bahrain asset manager Investcorp and American investment firm Ares Capital appeared to be in the running to complete a takeover of the Rossoneri but the Serie A champions were eventually purchased by private investment company Redbird.

But La Repubblica report that Investcorp are determined to land a Serie A club and have turned their attentions to Inter.

The report comes after a chance meeting between various parties at a Serie A Gala in New York.

According to the report, witnesses at an event with supporters in Little Italy a member of the group is alleged to have said: “If you don’t buy Milan, you buy Inter.”

The Nerazzurri have faced financial difficulties since the COVID-19 pandemic and in May 2021, the club’s Suning ownership group struck a €275 million deal with Oaktree Capital Management.

Last summer, the economic struggles saw the departures of Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi, while Milan Skriniar is also linked with a move away 12 months on.
