They’d also have an option to buy at the end of the season for another unnamed sum.

It would be an immense coup and a surprise so close to the deadline, but there are signs something is stirring at Casa Milan.

Directors Leonardo and Paolo Maldini have been coming in and out of the headquarters all evening, while Calciomercato.com reported the club had booked a medical for an unnamed player on Friday.

Lazio had wanted at least €120m for Serbia international midfielder Milinkovic-Savic, hoping for €150m from the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.

Sky Sport Italia and Sportitalia continue to insist there was never any real negotiation with Lazio for SMS.
