A tear in the adductor muscle in late September made for a difficult start for the 31-year-old and he struggled with his fitness on his first return in November.

In January picked up a thigh strain and was ruled out for another month, but the Gazzetta dello Sport claims he has done enough to convince the hierarchy at Roma during his 17 games this campaign.

With four assists added to the goal tally, he has helped Roma to fifth place in Serie A and they are through to the last 16 of the Europa League.

His contract at Arsenal expires in June 2021 and the Gunners will, according to the report, claim €25m for the attacking midfielder, but there's no option to buy in his current loan deal.

The newspaper suggests that the Giallorossi will not be able arrive that high and claims they are currently negotiating for a discounted price for the former Manchester United player.
