Roma players have reportedly agreed to cut their salaries, even up to four months, in order to protect employees furloughed during the shutdown.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the squad worked out a deal with the club to give up four months of wages if the 2019-20 season is already over.

If it resumes, they will spread the remaining two-and-a-half months over next season’s budget.

There will also be a fund set up by the players to help those staff members at the Trigoria training ground who were furloughed, as everything has been shut down since mid-March.

Coach Paulo Fonseca is also participating in the agreement, while the club directors have reportedly given up their salary for March in order to help the club balance the books.

Roma have been among the most active Serie A clubs during the coronavirus pandemic, raising funds through their Roma Cares charity and delivering medical supplies to local hospitals as well as food to fans who are unable to leave their homes.
