Real Madrid apparently also expressed an interest in the player, but Mexes' mind is already made up.

Milan are gradually rejuvenating their ageing side. No fewer than eight players' contracts expire this summer and some will not be renewed.

Mexes is being viewed as a long-term replacement for Alessandro Nesta, who at 34, is considering retirement.
