Juventus have opened talks to sign Diego Forlan from Atletico Madrid, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Old Lady is in the market for a striker, preferably one who can play just off a target man, much like Fabio Quagliarella was doing until he suffered a season-ending knee injury.

La Gazzetta understands that Juventus have initially asked if they can loan Forlan for the rest of the season.

Unsurprisingly Atletico don't appear too keen on this proposal, so Juventus general manager Beppe Marotta is now discussing the possibility of authorising a bid for a permanent transfer with the club's President Andrea Agnelli.

Forlan is being valued at €15m and currently earns around €4m a season at the Vicente Calderon.

Juventus would almost certainly have to move on Amauri before or shortly after signing the 31-year-old Uruguay international who was voted the best player at the 2010 World Cup.
