His situation had been one of the catalysts behind a Serie A managerial merry-go-round, as he said after lifting the Coppa Italia that he was unsure about his future.

The Biancocelesti held talks with their Coach, then investigated other avenues, above all ex-Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso.

In turn, Inzaghi was linked with Juventus, Milan, Sampdoria, Bologna and Fiorentina for next season.
