Caldara emerged from the Atalanta youth squad in 2015 and was sold to Juventus for a reported €19m in January 2017, but immediately loaned back to the Orobici.

After the 2017-18 season, he moved from Juventus to Milan on a permanent deal worth €36.4m but has struggled with injuries since.

The 26-year-old returned to La Dea on an 18-month loan deal in January 2020 but has not been able to convince coach Gian Piero Gasperini during his second spell in Bergamo.

Caldara has only played five times in Serie A this term and his progress continues to be halted by injuries.

The newspaper claims Cladara will return to Milan this summer when the loan deal expires, as Atalanta are not interested in signing the defender for €16m.

His deal with the Rossoneri expires in June 2023 and his future at San Siro is uncertain.
